The Relaunch

Standard

It is a bit daunting re-launching our do-it-yourself blog, after our rags to bags fiasco. But you’ve heard it said before, ‘If at first you don’t succeed….’ So we’d like to give it another go. Having taken the time to sort out some of our virtual/digital clutter, we decided to bring everything we do related to our arts and crafts projects into more collective features. Trust us, we’ll need all the luck to do so.

That is why I enlisted the time and talents of my hubby and partner in crime. We have been best friends since forever. And aside from our other interest we for the most part have always been DIY-ers, if there is such a thing, even before we met. Talk about soul mates! Since we both dropped out after high school the employment options were narrowed down to what we could do with our hands. Besides, the rising costs of higher education, burgeoning expenses and an uncertain job market have many rethinking that traditional 8-5 route to success. So we took the scenic road of self-employment and went back to some of the home science and arts and crafts lessons that we sneered at in Primary school. And voila! Here we are!

I guess you can’t really be a crafter without being a DIY-er, if we may say. Mostly everything in our home is do-it-yourself. Our crib is an evolving piece of art and if it wasn’t for the frustrating lack of materials, our inspirations would be indefatigable. There’s never enough room for all our ideas so we share them with others, at a fee of course. So whether you’re searching for a new hobby or looking for the perfect gift for an artsy relative Africrafty is a place to start.

P.S- Rags to bags will return regularly as a feature along with some of our other ideas and projects.

The Jimmy Choo

Standard

Slide1

Last week I had the good fortune of getting to repair a Jimmy Choo bag. Let me just start by saying that I’am a seriously great admirer of all things Jimmy Choo and I think his shoes are absolutely divine. His hand bags are just as  fabulous and for someone to entrust me with their seven hundred dollar Jimmy Choo…you can imagine my delight.

Slide2

So this Jimmy Choo had a busted zip and a seriously torn lining. Which begs the question; how do you go about making a hot Jimmy Choo even hotter than when you found it?

Slide3
You add an ultra cool Ankara wax lining and can absolutely say that I went to town on that bag and got it looking better on the inside than the original. Did I mention that I never held anything that expensive with my bare hands! It was my great pleasure doing it and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. So anyone out there have a bag they want fixed?
Ciao peeps,

All About Bags

Standard

There is probably only one accessory that comes close to the love ladies have for shoes and that’s a bag. It is one thing that every lady will carry with her no matter what she is wearing. And by bag I mean everything or anything from a small wallet to a suitcase. We just don’t like to walk around empty handed. Lets just say that’s how prepared we are.

Bags Galore

Welcome to rags to bags, where I talk about my love for crafting and the creative process. We’ll start off with my recent favorite thing to make. Like the really cool title suggests; I’am into making bags right now. I’am totally fascinated by it. Messenger bag, clutch, purse, coin purse…You name it and this here sister will most probably figure out a way to make it.

Ever since I was little, making things from scratch always got me going. I absolutely love the idea of taking things which are otherwise ordinary and turning them into beautiful pieces of art if we may call them that.
So how about we get right to it then?

The Messenger

The Messenger

We are all inspired by rags to riches stories. The way someone can come from nothing to something has always fascinated us. Probably because the idea of start with nothing and creating a success out of it is what we all aspire to do with something ourselves.

But we are not here to regale you with grand anecdotes. We’d like to tell a different tale in our own way. Unlike your typical rags to riches accounts. The stories that shall feature in the posts that will follow will be about rags, if we may put it that way, and how they can be turned to riches so to say. And by riches we mean treasure. Something we will always value and cherish for the pleasure it gives us. Not only for what it is but also for the experience it gives us.

So we look forward to telling you stories from our modest studio all the way in Eldoret. As we share some of our ideas and events around their production; we’d like to invite you to just take seat and indulge us a bit. Though as a rule we will always present what we have come up with ourselves. Many of these ideas may also be inspired by other wonderful ideas likewise and we will be sure to always give credit ti whom it is due.

Karibuni,
