If at first you don’t succeed…..

I was recently commissioned to do a messenger bag by someone who saw a bag I did for a mutual friend and the thing is I had never done a messenger bag before.

Well not exactly…I tried doing one a few months ago and I can tell you it was a serious disaster. It was so disappointing that I had almost sworn off messenger bags. So to my chagrin, when I got this job I had no idea how I was even going to begin making it. But alas, a plan was hatched.
I had some fabric which I bought at the market for dirt cheap and I had been looking for the perfect bag to make it with but I kept hitting a wall because it had such a drab print and was also a bit worse for wear. It was the best fabric to make a test bag to see how the real thing would turn out. So now I could begin my very intimidating bag.

My second attempt at the bag turned out so brilliantly that I’am happy to say the test bag is now a great bag by its own right. I finished it off with a cute crocheted sunflower to accentuate its colour palate and gave it an official name. It is now the REALLY AWESOME NOT SO DUDE’S TEST BAG BUT CUTE SUNFLOWER MESSENGER BAG. Yeah I know, I still have to work on the name.
Now I could begin the DUDE BAG with ease knowing that I had this in the bag (pun intended). So its was on to the next one.

The Messenger

We are all inspired by rags to riches stories. The way someone can come from nothing to something has always fascinated us. Probably because the idea of start with nothing and creating a success out of it is what we all aspire to do with something ourselves.

But we are not here to regale you with grand anecdotes. We’d like to tell a different tale in our own way. Unlike your typical rags to riches accounts. The stories that shall feature in the posts that will follow will be about rags, if we may put it that way, and how they can be turned to riches so to say. And by riches we mean treasure. Something we will always value and cherish for the pleasure it gives us. Not only for what it is but also for the experience it gives us.

So we look forward to telling you stories from our modest studio all the way in Eldoret. As we share some of our ideas and events around their production; we’d like to invite you to just take seat and indulge us a bit. Though as a rule we will always present what we have come up with ourselves. Many of these ideas may also be inspired by other wonderful ideas likewise and we will be sure to always give credit ti whom it is due.
